The grain varies from straight to curly, sometimes producing highly attractive figures. Flat-sawn boards feature wavy horizontal bands. All boards are machined S4S to 1/8", 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4" thicknesses. Thin boards are well-suited for edging, veneering, marquetry, sides for decorative boxes, bending stock and bent laminations. Thicker boards are ideal for furniture, paneling, cabinet doors, moldings, drawer sides, fine jewelry boxes and whatever else your imagination can dream up!Texture: Fine or medium to coarse, and uniform.Luster: Highly lustrous.Movement: Mahogany is considered to be one of the most stable timbers.Durability: High durability, resistant to brown-rot and white rot fungi. Dry dyes are designed to sink deep into the wood, coloring the fibers from within. This results in a transparent look with maximum shimmer, as light is able to penetrate and reflect off the natural grain. Homestead's Transfast dry dyes come in a fine powder form and are mixed to exact specifications from the finest raw materials. Once dissolved, they can also be added to water-based clear finishes as toners or used to modify the color of off-the-shelf waterborne stains. Dyes contain no fillers or extenders; one ounce of dry dye makes two quarts of stain. Dye stains are colorfast and can be applied with brush, cloth, or sprayed. Available in a variety of popular colors, which can be mixed to produce an endless array of hues.
